CIT NA NI HA..
CIT Awarded as Outstanding Institution
2008-02-25
Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) will be one of the awardees during the Cebu City Charter Day celebration to be held at Fort San Pedro on February 24, 2008. It will be given recognition as Outstanding Institution for Excellence in Information Technology Education.
CIT started offering IT-related degree programs in 1986. The school’s effort in ensuring the delivery of quality IT education is evidenced by the following accomplishments:
In 2000, CIT was the only school in Region 7 to be awarded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a Center of Development for Excellence in Information Technology Education (CODE-ITE).
CIT is the first school in the Visayas to be identified by CHED under its Faculty Development Program, as a delivering institution for Master in Computer Science (MCS) and Master in Information Technology (MIT). Faculty members handling CS/IT courses who have been accepted under the MCS and MIT programs of CIT may apply for CHED scholarship which will entitle them to free school fees, book and transportation allowance and monthly stipend (4T for part-timers; 8T for full-timers). There are currently 20 scholars from Region 7, 13 from Region 8 and two scholars from Mindanao.
In 2007, CIT is one of only nine schools all over the Philippines that has been awarded by CHED as a Center of Excellence in Information Technology Education (COE-ITE). Seven of the nine schools are from Luzon (Angeles University Foundation in Pampanga, Asia Pacific College in Manila, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University Manila, University of the Cordilleras in Baguio, University of the Philippines Diliman, University of the Philippines Los BaƱos) and only two are from Visayas (University of the Philippines Visayas - Cebu College and Cebu Institute of Technology).
This is not the first time that CIT has gotten an award from the Cebu City government. In 1980, CIT was awarded as the “Most Outstanding Institution for Learning in Cebu City”. In 1994, CIT was also awarded as the “Most Outstanding Academic Institution in Science and Technology” for Region VII by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VII and by the Cebu Federation of Scientific and Professional Organizations (COSPO).

Cebu Institute of Technology
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Established: 1946
Type: Private
Location: Cebu City, Philippines
Colors: Maroon and Gold
Nickname: Technologians
Website: www.cit.edu
The Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) in the Philippines is a private non-sectarian, academic institution, providing basic and higher education with a strong foundation in general and technological education.
CIT is the first higher educational institution (HEI) in the Visayas and Mindanao classified as Category A (t). This places CIT as a mature teaching institution under the CHED-IQUAME framework. IQUAME is Institutional Quality Assurance Through Monitoring and Evaluation, a system of higher education quality assurance and classification.
CIT is one of only nine schools nationwide awarded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) as Center of Excellence in Information Technology Education.
[edit] History
The Cebu Institute of Technology was established in 1946 by its founder and first President, the late Dr. Nicolas G. Escario Sr.. The groundwork for its establishment can also be attributed to the efforts of Engr. Fidel C. Dagani Sr., Engr. Amancio A. Alcordo and Engr.Jose A. Cavan who convinced the Board of Trustees of the feasibility of opening an engineering school. The plan took its final form when Dr. Nicolas G. Escario Sr., as President, Don Rodolfo T. Lizares Sr., as Vice-President and Don Simplicio Lizares as Chairman of the Board of Trustees pooled their resources to put up the school facilities and services.
The Cebu Institute of Technology opened its doors in 1946 with two pre-fabricated huts in F. Ramos Street. With 512 students, the School started its High School and College departments. It offered the following courses: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Architecture, and Vocational Courses.
With the objective of gearing higher education to the needs of the time, non-technical courses were later offered, the first of which was Liberal Arts courses in 1947. This was followed by Pharmacy and Junior Normal Course in 1948 and Education in 1949. The Vocational department was closed in 1951 and in its stead the College of Commerce was opened. In 1953, Sanitary Engineering was offered. In order to meet the demands of the other professions, the Pre-medicine was offered in 1957 followed by the Secretarial in 1958. Two years later, the Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering was started. The Pre-Nursing course and the college of Nursing (with the Cebu Velez College affiliation) were offered in 1960. The Industrial Engineering Department started a program in 1968 for future leaders in business and industry. Electronics and Communications Engineering was officially started in 1983.
Computer courses were offered in 1983 under the Computer Department. In 1996 the Computer Department was renamed Department of Computer Studies when its curriculum was given government permit to operate its BS Information and Computer Science, BS Computer Management, BS Computer Technology and BS Computer Engineering with their Associate Certificates.
When Rodolfo Lizares, Sr. took over the presidency of the school in 1958 upon the demise of the Founder and President, Dr. Nicholas G. Escario Sr., the school had eight semi-permanent buildings located in the C. Padilla Campus.
In 1965 President Lizareship acquired a new site at Rizal Avenue on which has risen a modern four-storey building. In 1971, the college graduating class moved to Rizal Avenue (now N. Bacalso Avenue) campus and gradually the rest of the college followed. The new campus soon housed the administrative staff, the college academic building, the well-equipped college library, engineering and science laboratories and provided for parking, athletics and ROTC purposes.
In 1978, President Lizares began a multi-million development plan under the Educational Project Implementing Task Force (EDPITAF) of the government. Through the program, CIT became the Resource Base Institution for Engineering in the Visayas and Mindanao Region.
The passing away of President Rodolfo T. Lizares Sr., in 1991 passed on to the then Executive Vice-President Gregorio L. Escario the responsibility and commitment to bring CIT to the year 2000.
The third CIT President, Mr. Gregorio L. Escario, opened a Kindergarten School in 1992 and reopened the Elementary Department in 1993.
